Welcome to the web site for arborist / author, Vic Foerster!
Vic’s passion for the natural world and for all things “Isle Royale” is contagious and conveyed through his books, Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories and Hidden in the Trees, an Isle Royale Sojourn.
Foerster’s books allows readers to experience his forty years of visits to what many consider the gem of the National Park Service.
'Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories' is the 2017 Great Lakes Reads Selection as chosen by the State of Michigan's Center for the Book. And Hidden in the Trees was a 2017 Burroughs Medal contender.
Artwork is provided by award winning artist, Joyce Koskenmaki, former artist-in-resident to Isle Royale. These wonderfully crafted books take an intimate look into what it means to find and revere wildness.
Vic Foerster still works as a consulting arborist who serves clients throughout Southwest Michigan. He is a past chairman to the Michigan DNR’s urban forestry advisory council and a long-time adviser for the Urban Forestry Project for the City of Grand Rapids.
In 2019, the Arboriculture Society of Michigan presented to Vic The Professional Service Award “For Outstanding Services and Contributions to the Arboriculture and the Urban Forestry Profession.”
He has written several articles pertaining to the proper care and maintenance of trees, including his monthly column called, "From the Field," for Tree Services Magazine and “The Michigan Landscape Magazine.”
