Isle Royale, Michigan | Vic Foerster; Author, Arborist
Vic Foerster is a consulting arborist who serves tree care clients throughout Southwest Michigan, clients that include Grand Valley State University, the City of Grand Rapids, and State of Michigan. He has served as past chairman to the Michigan DNR’s urban forestry advisory council and currently sits on the urban forestry advisory committee for the City of Grand Rapids.
For close to thirty years, Vic has visited Isle Royale with family and friends. His passion for the natural world and for all things “Isle Royale” is contagious and conveyed through his book, Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories. Foerster’s first book introduces readers to the least visited National Park in the lower 48 states and to what many call the gem of the National Park Service.
Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories is called worthy of the Sigurd Olson Award by Jerry Dennis, author of The Living Great Lakes and Tom Springer, Michigan Notable Book Award winner notes that Foerster’s book is written with “rare originality, humor and abiding grace …” . The artwork is provided by Joyce Koskenmaki, former artist-in-resident to Isle Royale. This wonderfully crafted book takes an intimate look into what it means to find and revere wildness.
