Vic’s passion for the natural world and for all things “Isle Royale” is contagious and conveyed through his books, Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories and Hidden in the Trees, an Isle Royale Sojourn. Foerster’s first book allows readers to experience his thirty years of visits to what many call the gem of the National Park Service. His second book reveals our natural world through the eyes of an arborist.
Naked in the Stream: Isle Royale Stories is the 2017 Great Lakes Reads selection by the State of Michigan, is called worthy of the Sigurd Olson Award by Jerry Dennis, author of The Living Great Lakes and Tom Springer, Michigan Notable Book Award winner notes that Foerster’s book is written with “rare originality, humor and abiding grace …” . Hidden in the Trees is currently nominated for a Michigan Notable Book Award.
The artwork is provided by Joyce Koskenmaki, former artist-in-resident to Isle Royale. These wonderfully crafted books take an intimate look into what it means to find and revere wildness.
Vic Foerster is a consulting arborist who serves tree care clients throughout Southwest Michigan, clients that include Grand Valley State University, the City of Grand Rapids, and the State of Michigan. He has served as past chairman to the Michigan DNR’s urban forestry advisory council and currently sits on the urban forestry advisory committee for the City of Grand Rapids.
He has written several articles pertaining to the proper care of trees. He currently writes a monthly column for Tree Services Magazine which can be read at www.treeservicesmagazine.com.
